New York Craft Beer Week begins Sept. 24

Craft brewers and local chefs, including more than 100 beer destinations and 30 restaurants, will converge on the third annual New York Craft Beer Week, which runs from Sept. 24 to Oct. 3 with events in all five of the city’s boroughs.

Attendees can enjoy local brews, specialty food and beer pairing menus, educational tastings and tours, and boutique beer festivals during the week. This year’s festival also includes the NYC Beer Passport 2010, an official program and resource guide. For $10, attendees will receive promotional deals and discounts from craft brewers at participating venues through the passport, which can be purchased online at www.nycbeerweek.com and at participating venues beginning Sept. 9.

Other events include:  

Brooklyn Brewery Presents "Exclusive Press Preview Event" (Wednesday, Sept. 8, 6:30 p.m.) Get a hard-hat tour previewing Brooklyn Brewery's new brewing facilities. Locally produced artisan foods paired with craft beers will be provided by Brooklyn Brewery as well as other breweries.

Third Annual Freaktoberfest Boutique Beer & Music Festival (Rock Shop, Park Slope: Friday, Sept. 24, 7 p.m.). More than 35 brewery owners will pour specialty beers while performers from the Coney Island Sideshow host the event and offer special performances alongside local indie-rock bands, burlesque dancers, and DJs. Freaktoberfest is the official "Opening Night Celebration" of N.Y. Craft Beer Week.

Get Real NY Cask Ale & Food Festival (135 W. 18th Street: Saturday, Sept. 25 and Sunday, Sept. 26, at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., VIP Session from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.) Get Real will have specialty cask-conditioned beers from around the world (including several from New York area homebrewers) and an assortment of artisan foods from nearby restaurants specializing in locally sourced food. Voyage of the IPA with Brooklyn Brewery's Brewmaster Garrett Oliver (On board The Clipper City of Manhattan by Sail from South St. Seaport: Saturday, Oct. 2, 4:30 p.m.) Garrett Oliver and the brewing team at Brooklyn Brewery lead a hoppy journey into their brewing past with tastings of three Brooklyn IPAs and additional selections from Captain Lawrence and Goose Island. The event will take place on Manhattan by Sail's 158-foot schooner sailing around New York harbor.

Brewer's Choice (City Winery: Thursday, Sept. 30, 6 p.m.) Fifteen brewmasters present their best beers and favorite food pairings in a walk around tasting event for more than 400 people.

"Meet The Brewer" Events. Occurring at several participating beer bars throughout Beer Week, top N.Y. craft brewers will offer extensive selections from their beer lineups.

Official Closing Celebration w/ Eleven Madison Park (Sunday, October 3). Hosted by Eleven Madison Park, the event will feature food prepared by Chef Daniel Humm, and multiple brewers will represent their standout craft beers.
