New agreement will put branded K-Cups in retail outlets nationwide

Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin' Brands Group Inc., Orrville, Ohio-based The J.M. Smucker Co., and Waterbury, Vt.-based Keurig Green Mountain Inc. expanded their partnership by signing agreements for the manufacturing, marketing, distribution and sale of Dunkin' K-Cup packs at retailers nationwide in the United States, Canada and online.
The current economic climate coupled with governmental and consumer concerns about health and wellness created a tough environment for the carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) market this year, according to analysts.
The gourmet coffee market has perked up this year, according to the National Coffee Association of USA Inc. (NCA). Approximately 34 percent of American adults drink gourmet coffee beverages daily, up 3 percentage points from 2013, according to the New York-based association’s “National Coffee Drinking Trends” market research study, which was released in March. Conversely, non-gourmet coffee drinking dropped 4 percentage points to 35 percent, it reports.

Keurig Green Mountain Inc., Waterbury, Vt., closed on the purchase of a 585,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Douglasville, Ga., which will be responsible for producing pods for the company’s new Keurig Cold platform, set to launch in fiscal-year 2015.
In February, The Coca-Cola Co. and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc., now known as Keurig Green Mountain, announced plans to develop a new at-home beverage system called the Keurig Cold that would enable consumers to make their own Coca-Cola branded drinks at home.
“It’s no secret that 2013 was a challenging year,” began Larry D. Young, president and chief executive officer of Plano, Texas-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS), in his address during the company’s fourth-quarter 2013 earnings call.

The Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR), Waterbury, Vt., announced the closing of the previously announced private placement of GMCR common stock to The Coca-Cola Co. for total gross proceeds of approximately $1.25 billion.
