After years of testing, The Boston Beer Co. announced that its Samuel Adams brand launched the first three brews from the Samuel Adams Nitro Project: Nitro White Ale, Nitro IPA and Nitro Coffee Stout. The new craft beer line features a combination of nitrogen gas and carbon dioxide (CO2) in place of carbonation, giving the brews a rich, creamy texture, the company says. The Nitro White Ale is a 5.5 percent alcohol-by-volume, medium-bodied brew featuring orange peel, coriander and Grains of Paradise. At 7.5 percent ABV, Nitro IPA has an initial cap of creaminess that gives way to hop intensity gathered from Amarillo, Centennial, Galaxy, Polaris, Simcoe and Zeus hops. Nitro Coffee Stout is a 5.8 percent ABV brew featuring Sumatran Mandheling and Indian Monsoon Malabar coffee and dark roasted malts that create notes of bittersweet chocolate with hints of dark fruit, the company says. The Nitro beers are available nationwide on draft and in four-packs of 15-ounce cans that have a suggested retail price of $8.99-$10.99.
