E. & J. Gallo Winery (Gallo), Modesto, Calif., has been awarded the exclusive rights to distribute Italy's Pieropan wines in the United States beginning May 9.

Pieropan will join Allegrini and Poggio al Tesoro wines in Gallo's new Luxury Wine Group (LUX Wines). Gallo started LUX Wines in 2014 to meet the evolving needs of its customers. LUX's vision is to represent iconic wine suppliers from the most noteworthy denominations and appellations around the world, the company says.

“We are thrilled to represent Pieropan and add their wines to our LUX Wines portfolio,” said Roger Nabedian, senior vice president of Gallo's Premium Wine Division, in a statement. “Four generations of the Pieropan family have been dedicated to making the finest traditional varieties of Soave. These wines are widely appealing and we are excited to share Pieropan's award-winning wines with American consumers.”

The Pieropan business was founded in 1880 in the heart of the medieval village of Soave, a few miles east of Verona. The family has been producing the traditional varieties of Soave since the early 1900s. Today, the winery is run by Nino and Teresita Pieropanalong with their sons Dario and Andrea.

The Pieropan portfolio that LUX Wines will distribute includes the Soave Classico 'La Rocca,' Soave Classico 'Calvarino' and Pieropan Soave Classico.
