E. & J. Gallo Winery (Gallo), Modesto, Calif., announced that it has purchased Ledgewood Creek Winery and Vineyard in Solano County.

The 400-acre ranch is located just east of Napa Valley in the North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA). It consists of approximately 230 acres of vineyard, which produce a variety of premium wine grapes including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, the company says.

“This portion of Solano County in the North Coast AVA can produce exceptional wine grapes,” said Roger Nabedian, senior vice president and general manager of Gallo's Premium Wine Division, in a statement. “This vineyard is a great addition to our portfolio to support the rapid growth we have had in our premium wine business.”

There are no immediate plans to operate the Ledgewood Creek Winery or tasting room. The purchase price was not disclosed.

This acquisition follows the company’s announcement earlier this year that it was awarded exclusive rights to distribute Italy’s Allegrini wines. Gallo began distributing these wines April 1. The Allegrini portfolio includes the Allegrini and Poggio al Tesoro brands.
