Celestial Seasonings rides for cancer

Celestial Seasonings, a subsidiary of Melville, N.Y.-based The Hain Celestial Group Inc., hosted its second annual B Strong Ride cycling event  Aug. 11 to raise money for local and national cancer organizations. With more than 750 riders participating in the Boulder, Colo., event, the company raised more than $330,000 for cancer-related causes, exceeding last year’s collections by more than $60,000.

"I cannot begin to express my gratitude to everyone involved in making this event such a success," said Peter Burns, president of Celestial Seasonings and chief sales officer of Hain Celestial, in a statement. "As a company, we are committed to helping people live healthier lives, and our continued partnership with the B Strong Ride allows us to make an immediate and positive impact on the lives of so many courageous cancer survivors."

Proceeds from this year’s event will support cancer-related causes in Colorado and around the country, such as the new in-patient cancer wing at Boulder Community Hospital, the George Karl Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Also contributing to the event were other companies within the Hain Celestial family, including Arrowhead Mills, Earth’s Best, The Greek Gods and MaraNatha. Several local groups, such as Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, Covidien, Zayo Group, Envysion, Laszlo Law, Crocs, Native Rank, Nest Fresh Eggs, GH Phipps, MBS Capital Markets, Sterling Rice Group, Holland & Hart and Boston Scientific, also helped to sponsor the event.

"The karma generated and the class shown by everyone this weekend was off the charts," said George Karl, head coach of the National Basketball Association’s Denver Nuggets and founder of the George Karl Foundation, a charitable organization supporting causes including cancer care programs, education, animal rights and environmental initiatives, in a statement. "The ride itself and the backyard party at Celestial Seasonings created a truly special day. We're already excited to begin working on next year's event."
