Flavors of North America Inc.,
Carol Stream, Ill., will change its name to FONA International Inc. effective April 15. The company says the new name reflects its growth in international markets during the past five years, and its operations bases in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Along with the name change, the company has adopted a new logo and established a Web site at fona.com
Degussa AG, based in Düsseldorf, Germany, announced it has sold its fruit systems business to Speyside Equity, based in Delaware. The new business will operate as Sweet Ovations LLC, and will be headquartered in Philadelphia. In addition to its headquarters location, the company has a site in Gardena, Calif., and produces conventional and aseptically processed fruit preparations, syrups and flavors.
Nutrinova Inc. has joined the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program (C-TPAT). The voluntary U.S. government business initiative is designed to build cooperative relationships to strengthen overall supply chain and improve border security. Certification requires uniformly high security standards along the entire transport chain, and protecting buildings against unlawful entry and unauthorized access.
D.D. Williamson Ingredients (Shanghai) Ltd. has expanded its liquid product line for the Asian market. Last year’s acquisition of Cargill’s Cerestar caramel color operation in Manchester, England, increased its global production, and D.D. Williamson has expanded its manufacturing in Asia to include DDW#252, DDW#301 and DDW#385 for sauces and brewing applications. It also is producing DDW#535 caramel for flavor and alcohol beverage applications.
Chr. Hansen has opened its new Middle East and Africa headquarters in Dubai, UAE. The new office employs five people for technical sales, purchasing and customer support, and the division is expected to focus on dairy products, including probiotics.
The Solae Co., St. Louis, has reached a settlement in an isoflavone concentrate patent infringement suit against Archer Daniels Midland Co. and Amerifit Nutrition. According to the agreement, ADM will purchase Solae’s global isoflavone concentrate business, including its patent portfolio, for an undisclosed price.
Danisco, New Century, Kansas, has named Jeffrey Downer director of marketing, responsible for global sales and marketing, business development, advertising and trade show resources, and analysis of Danisco’s customer base.
